ISRI stands for Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. It is an AFFILIATION for reprocessing and recycling of metals and batteries for various industries. ISRI have a particular code for autos, trucks and lead acid battery scraps which is known as RAINS.
RAINS are solid and specific identifications for the lead acid batteries and their scraps. It provides the surety that the scrap batteries are dried and drained in a proper and complete manner. They have to free of any kind of acid, liquid and water. Many times the lead acid batteries also contain plastic and rubber material. These cases include 95% of white color plastic and 5% of black color plastic material. There is no chance of any case made up of glass, wood or metal.
All the suppliers of lead acid batteries bind to RAINS. Only lead acid batteries are usually preferred for the recycling and smelting processes. RAILS and RINKS are some other code specifications available for the similar process. After the proper battery disposal, materials are recovered and then dried and then at last are recycled.
