Toothpaste Improvements over the Years:
Toothpaste is used every day by most of the persons, and oral health care is a big market fast expanding, being a daily use article. Most of the persons just buy toothpaste influenced by a TV advertisement and use it till it is finished and buy one more pack before the earlier is finished to maintain the continuity.
Toothpaste in it’s primitive form has been available around more than twenty millenniums before different civilizations used toothpaste made according to the strange practices prevalent in those times like mixing powdered ashes of animal parts to act as abrasives along with pumice and water as wetting agent. In those times, chewed sticks were used as brushes. Later on burnt snail and oyster shells along with gypsum was used by the Persians. All these materials caused damage to the teeth, but were used since there was no alternative.
Before the World War II, lead tubes and tins were used to make available toothpaste, subsequently it was observed that lead reacted with the contents, which was replaced with laminated aluminum, paper and plastic tubes.
With the studies confirming that fluoride helped in reduction of cavities the popularity of the tooth paste increased.
Mouthwash
Mouthwash is a solution of active ingredients designed to put a hold on the growth of bacteria and reduce or mask the smell of the mouth with strong smell of flavours used in the product. There are some mouthwash preparations available, with properties of whitening of teeth.
It is device containing small motor making oscillating motions, with an interchangeable toothbrush head attachment. It is a sealed unit powered by a cell. Toothpaste is applied on the toothbrush head and after switching on the head of tooth brush is pushed against teeth to make up and down movement. One switched on it works for 2 minutes, thus working hard on the tooth surface.
